We’ve been receiving an increasing number of job-related announcements on the Polish forums. Do you have any idea on what to do with them? Here are some: create a separate “Job announcements” forum on the official forums (I do realise you may not want that to be on the official forums)/(you|we) create a Polish counterpart of jobs.wordpress.net (the latter unlikely to happen)/we post a sticky topic that such announcements don’t belong here. WDYT?
-
Zé
I’d say you’re looking at an opportunity, right there. It’s a bad idea to have a jobs panel on the forums as those posts inevitably spill over to the whole forum, and job soliciting is not allowed, anyway. I’d go ahead and create your own Polish jobs site, and point forum users there.

Do you mean somebody should start a business if they wanted to create a board for posting job announcements?

Hello, I’m the former maintainer of WordPress Uighur Forum. I haven’t look after it for a long time, and today I found that this forum filled out by spam posts. I can’t delete these posts so please delete all posts in http://ug.forums.wordpress.org/. It would be very nice to change it as a plugin, I think.
Thank you.-
Remkus de Vries
Perhaps @nacin can help you out with that?
-
Zé
I’m faster :). Akismet activated, deleting 2000+ spam topics, recounting tags. Sit tight.
-
Remkus de Vries
I would’ve been faster if I could’ve done it myself 😉

Zé
Be careful with what you wish for…

I’ve made مۇرشىدى admin of ug.forums.wordpress.org, in the meantime. Manage it here.

مۇرشىدى
Thank you very much.
But I have another request to delete ALL Users of Uighur Forum, http://ug.forums.wordpress.org/, because they all are definitely a spammer. I can delete them one-by-one but they are very large and I can’t delete with one-click. If possible, I would like to ask you to set a moderation step for user registration. Thank you. -
Andrew Nacin
Users don’t matter — they are all part of the same WordPress.org registration system. You can’t delete them at all. We should probably just hide “Users” all together for the international forums.
-
مۇرشىدى
Oh, I didn’t expected it. Thank you for your explaining.

Hi,
Below fields of forums’ register screen should be check boxes, but they are text fields now.
I use WordPress at work
I make my living using WordPress
I am a WordPress consultantAlso those strings are not included in the rosetta project.
e.c.
http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/rosetta/ja/defaultCould you fix them and update the rosetta oroject?
-
Zé
They’re in the “Forums” subproject, for instance “I use WordPress at work“
-
Tai
Ah! There it is. Thank you, Zé!

I wish to add a international forum for Slovenian on http://sl.forums.wordpress.org/
I have support-forum and wporg-bbpress-theme ready and translated on svn, and I updated rosetta-sl_SI.po.
I would also like access to GlotPress for bbPress and Rosetta->ForumsAnd if it’s not too much, access to WordPress for Android on glotpress.
Thank you!
-
Marko
bump ?
-
Zé
Sorry for the delay. We’ll be moving forums to a bbPress plugin on the rosetta sites soon, so that, right now, and until that happens, we won’t be creating any new forums. Very sorry about that, but rest assured that it will be much better in the end. Thanks.
-
Marko
no problem.
could I get access to glotpress for bbPress and Android before that ?
-
Zé
Created http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/sl/default and http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/android/dev/sl/default

Please add Russian to bbPress → International Forums, Theme and Support Plugin.
The forums theme .pot will eventually be uploaded there, right? I still can’t find some strings in the latest wporg.pot from http://codex.wordpress.org/International_WordPress_Forums.
-
Andrew Nacin
I deleted those three sub-projects, as they were the wrong ones, actually.
Note we are planning to move the i18n forums to the bbPress plugin in the next few months, which is why we are largely in maintenance mode here. That’s just a disclaimer, though. Let’s solve your problem.
The international forums are governed by three different POTs:
- The old bbPress 1.x POT files at http://bbpress-i18n.svn.wordpress.org/pot/. The code and thus the strings and translations are pretty much frozen in time.
- The support forum bbPress plugin at http://plugins-svn.bbpress.org/support-forum/trunk/languages/. This is also pretty much frozen in time.
- The wporg.pot that governs the theme, which you can now find at http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/rosetta/forums. You are already added here.
There are some strings missing in the wporg.pot which I will get add tomorrow, including the strings you couldn’t find way back in September 2010. Previously there were some technical restrictions, but I just rewrote things so that is no longer a problem — you can have any strings you’d like. (If there are missing strings, report them here as a bug. From tomorrow on out, it’s just a matter of fixing the code to add the right textdomain, etc.)
Also note you will need to request a deploy through Rosetta for these strings, and specify that you want the forums deployed.
-
Andrew Nacin
The rosetta/forums project is now updated with the latest strings. Please let me know what is still missing.

Making a thread “sticky (on homepage)” doesn’t work.

I should probably note this applies to pl.forums.wordpress.org. 🙂

Hello there.
We have right now 1355 threads with 3337 messages in es_ES forums, but they are unsearchable. Right now, if you are in your locale forum and tries a search, you are redirected to wordpress.org/support/-only results.
Is it possible to set up the search to allow the users search in WP.org forums, locale forum, or both?
-
Zé
Not exactly “you are redirected to wordpress.org/support/-only results”, as they are pulled from *all* forums (try searching for a spanish-only term, like “pestaña”), but you have a point with limiting or prioritizing the search to locale forum first.
-
Rafael Poveda - RaveN
I didn’t realize about that because almost everything that you search (and I have tried) are common terms.
With this in mind and testing again, you can get a locale search using something like:
allowed memory size "es.forums.wordpress.org"
If you don’t use the quotes it doesn’t work.Maybe we can add a checkbox to add
%22LOCALE.forums.wordpress.org%22
to the search string if checked, and get something likehttp://wordpress.org/search/%22es.forums.wordpress.org%22+Allowed+memory+size?forums=1
-
Remkus de Vries
This ánd the fact that finding the Search option to begin with seems to be too difficult for most users.
I suppose bbPress 2.0 will solve most of these issues as well?
-
Sergey Biryukov
There’s also an issue with Cyrillic topics — none of them can be found via Google:

Please do a thorough recount for our zh_CN forum:

I can’t open a thread on Polish forums. The “message” parameter alternates in my browser’s location bar from “&message=opened” to “&message=closed”, but the thread is still closed. Thread URL: http://pl.forums.wordpress.org/topic/polski-kanal-irc-wordpressa
-
Zé
It works for me. Have you tried clearing cache & cookies and logging out and back in? Can anyone else reproduce?
-
Wacław J.
I have. It doesn’t say it’s locked in the sidebar, but I can’t post a response.
-
Wacław J.
It still doesn’t work. The title of the thread also changes from “[sticky] [closed] ” to “[sticky] “, but there’s no response area and there’s a notice at the bottom of the page saying that the thread is closed.

I’ve received a forum post deletion request. What should I do?
-
Zé
What is the reason given for the request? Also see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Deleting_.2F_Editing_Posts
-
Wacław J.
Thanks a lot for your response, Zé. 🙂 I actually shouldn’t be bothering you with this – I’ve asked about this in the past, but I forgot about it (I thought I’ve only asked about account deletion requests, but I didn’t). The reported reason is “artificial traffic on blog”. Wdyt? Wacław

Hi! Could we please set up a forum for nb.wordpress.org? Looking into possibility of migrating from “norskwp.no/forum” — which is using bbPress. Would it be possible to import posts from there?
-
Zé
We can setup the forum, but migration is going to be a headache, because of the missing .org user profile. We (pt) did that change a while ago and opted to start afresh and leave the old forum in read-only mode, for a while, for reference purposes.

Why some strings aren’t translated in frontend?
